Gerdau is a global leading supplier of steel. Its North American headquarters is in Tampa, FL, and the HR IT Value Stream team needs a payroll, tax, and benefits consultant. The role will involve hands‑on configuration as well as functional/business process work. The candidate must understand U.S. benefits, year‑end payroll, tax maintenance, W‑2 generation, and related processes. Gerdau runs a private cloud of HANA but is also open to ECC experience.
The consultant will be front‑facing, gathering requirements from the business, working with a managed service partner for development and integration, and providing day‑to‑day support and configuration. Documentation is key. Client j/d:
Key Responsibilities SAP Payroll & Tax (Core Focus)
- Configure, maintain, and support SAP Payroll (PY) for U.S. and Canada
- Own end‑to‑end payroll processing, including pre‑payroll validation, payroll runs, post‑payroll activities, off‑cycle payrolls, garnishment, 3rd‑party remittance, payroll posting, tax, and the related interfaces
- Configure and maintain tax models, wage types, schemas, PCRs, rules, and paycheck forms
- Support year‑end processing, including W‑2, W‑2c, T‑4, and tax reconciliation
- Integrate and support third‑party tax vendors (e.g., ADP, BSI)
- Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, tax errors, retro calculations, and posting issues
- Configure and support SAP Benefits (BN) including new plans, eligibility, enrollment, deductions, retro activity
- Manage benefit‑related payroll deductions and employer contributions
- Support and troubleshoot benefit vendor integrations (inbound/outbound interfaces, files, IDocs, APIs)
- Ensure accurate mapping of benefits to payroll wage types
- Configure and debug schemas, PCRs, wage types, infotypes, and posting rules
- Perform root‑cause analysis for payroll and benefits defects and deliver permanent fixes
- Support payroll posting to Finance (FI) and reconciliation activities
- Participate in system upgrades, support packs, and enhancement implementations
- Execute unit testing, integration testing, and support UAT and parallel payroll runs
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Support audits, controls, and compliance documentation
- Implement changes driven by legislative or regulatory updates
Required Qualifications – Must Haves
- 5+ years of hands‑on SAP Payroll, Tax & Benefits experience (ECC and/or S/4
HANA) and Success Factors EC - Strong hands‑on experience with SAP Payroll schemas & PCRs, wage type configuration, tax models and tax reporting, benefits configuration and payroll integration
- Proven experience supporting live payroll operations, not just implementations
- Experience with U.S. payroll and taxation (international a plus)
- SAP HCM / SAP Payroll (PY)
- SAP Benefits (BN)
- Payroll posting to FI
- Third‑party tax or benefits vendors (e.g., ADP, BSI)
- Debugging tools and payroll logs
- Experience with SAP S/4
HANA Payroll or SAP Payroll on HANA and Success Factors - Good understanding of SAP CPI, SF Connectors integrations
- Exposure to UKG Time Management (PT) and its impact on payroll
- Experience in large, complex, or unionized payroll environments
- Payroll or tax certifications (CPP, FPC, or SAP certification); experience supporting multi‑state or multi‑country payrolls
12‑month contract with potential for conversion if performance meets expectations. Hybrid position based in Tampa, FL.
Compensation$40.00–$50.00 per hour.
