Overview

A computer systems engineer in the Computer Systems and Cyber Security group is responsible for the integration and maintenance of core hardware and software infrastructure and services used by training devices. Core responsibilities include development of installation and secure configuration procedures for hypervisors (e.g. Hyper‑V, VMware), operating systems (Linux and Windows), frameworks such as .NET, network switches, KVMs, and both COTS and custom applications.

The role also involves developing and integrating standardized embedded solutions using various interfacing protocols to provide a consistent, stable, and secure environment for simulation software solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Development of reference solutions to maximize efficiency and create a consistent simulation environment
  • Computer system setup, including hardware and software installation and troubleshooting
  • Support of R&D project and innovation initiatives
  • Assist in designing and implementing efficient solutions in accordance with defined requirements
  • Basic understanding of configuration management systems and large‑scale software development
  • Assist application engineers as required
  • Coordinate and review technical/operational deliverables prior to submission
  • Participate in project team meetings and weekly staff meetings
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • B.S. degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably Computer Science or Computer Engineering)
  • Minimum of eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Working knowledge of DoD IA regulations and Security+ or equivalent IA certification preferred
  • Prior experience in operating system setup and updates to apply patches to mitigate information assurance vulnerabilities
  • Eligibility for U.S. citizenship only (due to U.S. Government contract requirements)
Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts
  • Experience with multiple types of operating systems (Linux, Windows)
  • Experience writing detailed operating system and application installation instructions
  • Experience implementing cyber security controls and applying patches to eliminate vulnerabilities
  • Experience setting up and securing network hardware (switches, NATs, routers, etc.)
  • Experience researching and installing boundary defense mechanisms such as firewalls, IDS, routers, and managed switches
  • Experience installing EPO virus protection software and firewalls
  • Experience reviewing program requirements and defining steps for meeting them, including applicable information assurance regulations
  • Experience applying computer changes to comply with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • Work closely with Integration Specialists to define required tasks for contract requirements
Security Responsibilities

Must comply with all company security and data protection/usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials in any form, and must not divulge information outside the company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company‑provided resources. Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Work may involve sitting, standing, walking for short periods, focused visual concentration, and moderate to high stress levels. Extended work hours and possible 2nd and 3rd shift assignments are likely. Physical demands include long periods of sitting, climbing stairs, traveling domestically and internationally, and entering simulator areas.
