IT EMS Analyst – Progression (Tampa Electric)

Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies provide critical services during emergencies. Team members must participate in response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to customers. Members may be required to work normal job duties or other assigned activities. Compensation will be as per company rules and procedures. Responding to storms is a condition of employment.

Position Concept

A Systems Analyst develops applications; implements software packages, integrates applications, and provides 24x7 application support. The role collaborates on all phases of the software development life-cycle (SDLC) with a focus on application design, development, and implementation phases. Appropriate development tools and technologies are used in line with IT architecture.

Focus Area

This position supports TECO’s energy control center by managing GE’s E-terra EMS (Energy Management System). The real‑time system helps TECO monitor the transmission and generation assets that make up the bulk electric system for Tampa. Duties include administering and supporting the system for operators, handling data from the EMS to external departments (requiring programming and database interactions), and supporting smaller ETL applications as needed.

Working Conditions

Most work is performed in an office environment, with occasional travel to operating locations required.

Level 1 – Associate Systems Analyst Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop software of limited complexity based on provided specifications.
  • Implement software packages with limited configuration and integration and minimal vendor contact.
  • Integrate applications with limited interface complexity based on specifications.
  • Provide 24x7 primary support for one or more non‑mission‑critical applications; may provide secondary support for mission‑critical applications.
  • Assist with documentation and estimates during the request and analysis phases of SDLC.
  • Produce deliverables under guidance of senior staff during design, development, and implementation phases of SDLC.
  • Participate in Application Development and Support and project teams under manager or senior staff direction.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of relevant business areas and application support assignments.
  • Acquire and maintain technical skills.
  • Qualifications Education

    Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or equivalent. In lieu of Bachelor’s, additional related experience may be considered.

    Licenses/Certifications

    Preferred:
    Certifications in specific job‑related disciplines.

    Related Experience

    Required:

    Minimum one year of systems analysis, design, and development experience. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma plus 4+ years of related experience may be considered.

    Other Requirements
    • Working knowledge of business software applications and hardware technologies; stays current with IT industry trends.
    • Good verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
    • Understanding of project plans and ability to articulate role, goals, and timelines.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
    • Comprehension of technical design specifications and development tools in support of IT architecture.
    Supervision

    Indirect Supervision:
    Provides no direct supervision, but may be assigned a leadership role that could include overseeing contract resources and/or junior staff.
