Senior VDI Administrator

Leidos is seeking a Senior VDI Administrator to support a large enterprise IT contract for the Department of Defense. The Administrator will provide operations support to customers across multiple geographic locations, maintain existing virtual desktop environments, and assist with the implementation of new solutions. The role focuses on improving the reliability, functionality, and user experience of thin‑client platforms and virtual desktops for a diverse user base.

Primary

Tasks
  • Remote administration of servers in off‑site data centers.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 operations support for Citrix Xen Desktop, Xen App, Net Scaler, Store Front, and Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop.
  • Monitor infrastructure and identify system anomalies before impacting customers (storage, network, database, and daily health checks).
  • Collaborate with Engineering on modernization plans.
  • Perform network latency analysis to address slow connections and user experience issues.
  • Implement version and architectural changes to maintain operability and security.
  • Implement major system upgrades as designed and approved.
  • Coordinate with Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams for testing and deployment of Group Policy changes.
  • Perform periodic backup and restoration of servers.
  • Monitor desktop capacity to size the environment based on usage trends.
  • Monitor license and certificate status; coordinate renewal and installation.
  • Collect data, conduct analysis, develop and implement solutions for incident tickets and requirements.
  • Establish comprehensive availability and capacity management solutions.
  • Develop solutions to technical issues.
  • Provide follow‑up reports for root cause analysis and process improvement initiatives.
  • Review, update, and generate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for systems and services.
  • Update operations and monitoring documentation for 24/7/365 ITOC personnel.
  • Respond to after‑hours outages deemed mission critical by ITOC government rep.
  • Conduct routine maintenance during prescribed windows, including evenings and weekends.
  • Provide mentorship and training for junior team members.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience interacting with customers to handle service inquiries and problems.
  • Experience as a Tier 2 and Tier 3 system administrator, familiar with desktop applications, web browsing, and IT Service Management software such as Service Now.
  • Knowledge of IC IT standards and best practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of Citrix technologies (Xen Desktop, Xen App, Net Scaler, Store Front).
  • Experience managing Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktops.
  • Experience with patch and upgrade methodology for front‑end and back‑end Citrix systems.
  • Experience with rapid testing, validation, and deployment of new baseline images.
  • Experience conducting incident and trend analysis via log review, performance baselining, and incident/problem management techniques.
  • Experience with scripting/automation.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues in a growing environment.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Track record of working effectively within a team and supporting peers to improve processes and results.
  • Experience with support ticket management systems.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising others.
  • Must meet DoDM 8140.03 (previously DoD 8570) IT System Admin Intermediate certification requirements (Cloud+, GICSP, SSCP, Security+ CE, GSEC, or higher).
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, a Master’s degree with 6 years, an Associate’s with 10 years, or a High School Diploma with 12 years.
  • TS/SCI with Poly required for Position or TS/SCI and willingness to obtain and maintain a Poly. US Citizenship required.

  • Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA)
  • Microsoft Certified:
    Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
  • Microsoft 365 Administrator
  • ITIL Foundations Certification
Pay Range

Pay Range: $92,300.00 – $
