Role Description
The Motorola Two‑Way Radio Programmer & Basic Field IT role is a full‑time, on‑site position based in Tampa, FL. This role is responsible for programming and configuring Motorola two‑way radios, including creating and updating codeplugs, aligning radio settings with customer requirements, and performing basic diagnostics and troubleshooting. Day‑to‑day tasks include installing and testing radio equipment at customer sites, supporting basic IT connectivity for radio systems, documenting configurations and work performed, and assisting with maintenance schedules.
The role also involves collaborating with technicians on system upgrades, providing clear communication to the sales representatives about work status, and adhering to safety and quality standards while working in the field and in the shop.
We are seeking a hands‑on technical professional who enjoys solving problems and working directly with customers to program, deploy, and maintain Motorola two‑way radio systems while providing basic on‑site IT support. The ideal candidate is tech‑savvy, comfortable with fieldwork, and resides within the Tampa Bay area or neighboring counties. You must be willing to use a company vehicle to visit customer sites as needed.
Experience with cellular, military, amateur, or commercial two‑way radio communication—as well as an IT background—is highly preferred. In this role, you will interface with business, industrial, and local government radio systems, ensuring customer infrastructure runs smoothly and reliably.
- Radio Programming:
Strong foundation or ability to learn and apply programming, configuring, troubleshooting, and updating Motorola two‑way radios & repeaters system firmware and code‑plugs using Motorola Radio Management and CPS software. Analyze radio coverage, run diagnostic metrics on repeaters, and optimize RF capacity to eliminate communication dropouts. - Radio Engineering:
Design, program, and scale Motorola Capacity Plus and Capacity Max trunked radio systems. Configure system servers and talk groups, subscriber units, and site frequencies. You will serve as the liaison between FCC and BCI Communications, assisting customers with their licensing applications. - Basic IT Support:
Familiarity with basic networking (IP addressing, routers, switches) is beneficial. Assist staff with basic computer troubleshooting, hardware setup, printer configurations, and password resets. Run diagnostic tests, and resolve connectivity issues for staff communication devices. - Asset Management:
Track and organize all programming details and create trip reports for off‑site visits. Attention to detail in documentation, testing, and configuration management; strong problem‑solving skills in field environments. - Effective interpersonal and communication skills for working with customers and team members onsite.
- Experienced with Motorola CPS and two‑way radio infrastructure.
