Founded in 1960, Berkeley is an independent, co‑educational, Episcopal‑affiliated college preparatory school with a current enrollment of 1,400 students in grades Pre‑K through 12. Housekeeper – 2nd Shift

The Housekeeper – 2nd Shift is a full‑time position. Custodians work under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager; duties include scheduled housekeeping, custodial work, projects and facility set‑ups. The position may require driving a Berkeley vehicle; a current Florida driver’s license and insurance approval are required.

Minimum experience:

one (1) year in a Housekeeping position in an institutional environment. A positive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sweep, mop and scrub floors, stairs (inside and outside buildings) and other surfaces.
  • Use light and heavy (industrial type) floor machines and attachments.
  • Scrub, strip, wax and polish floors using heavy powered scrubber and buffers.
  • Vacuum carpets in offices and public areas.
  • Extract carpets periodically using spotter machine or extractor.
  • Clean and dust surfaces such as furniture, exhibit cases, pictures, door trim and chalkboards.
  • Adjust, clean and lubricate equipment, including scrubbers and buffers; replace brushes, pads, rollers, etc.
  • Remove, wash and replace window blinds; wash ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds.
  • Wash windowsills, corridor doors, glass and trim in entrance doors.
  • Wash and/or clean interior wall spaces by hand or with a powered wall washing machine, using ladders and scaffolding as required.
  • Clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms and restrooms.
  • Collect trash and debris, place in containers or plastic bags, and deliver to collection areas.
  • Clean wastebaskets and trash containers and replace liners.
  • Perform event and function set‑ups and breakdowns, moving tables and chairs.
  • Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
  • Report items that need repair (doors, fixtures, lights, faucets, etc.).
  • Lock all offices, classrooms and labs after cleaning.
  • Be available to respond to communications via two‑way radio if assigned.
  • Follow safety rules as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Basic

Job Requirements
  • Ability to read/write English.
  • Some knowledge of institutional cleaning is desirable.
  • Operate safely.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Operate or learn to safely operate cleaning equipment.
  • Lift, push and pull a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Work within the industry without allergic reaction to dust, dirt, cleaning solutions or other common materials.
  • Uphold the philosophy of the institution, observe regulations and cooperate fully in operations.
Compensation and Benefits

The appointment is available immediately and is a full‑time, hourly, non‑exempt position eligible for full benefits. The compensation package is competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, certification attainment, and the independent school market.
