Position: Occupational Safety Business Partner (Risk & Safety Management)

Job Overview

Job Overview: This is a professional and strategic job responsible for aligning organizational objectives with employees and management in designated functions or departments. The Occupational Safety Business Partner serves as a consultant to management on safety program related issues. The incumbent will act as an employee champion, organizational advocate and a change agent. The Occupational Safety Business Partner assesses and anticipates safety program related needs in the organization or within specific business units and proactively works with the departments to develop integrated solutions.

The Occupational Safety Business Partner has a wide range of safety program management knowledge to formulate the appropriate partnerships across risk and safety management functions and deliver value-added global solutions to management. The Occupational Safety Business Partner maintains an effective level of business literacy about the department(s) objectives, financial position, strategic plans, and culture.

Salary

$70, 000 - $75,000

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate works with initiative and independent judgment to ensure compliance with all safety and health programming; identifies and prioritizes employee training needs and maintains and submits required reports on training and safety. The candidate conducts workplace safety inspections to identify unsafe operations or business practices and provides direction on corrective actions to abate hazards. The candidate performs accident/incident investigations to assess root cause, communicates investigation findings and corrective measures via written reports.

The candidate provides safety and health training to ensure policies, procedures and standards are understood and followed. The candidate assists in overall safety programming development and implementation. The work is performed in office environments, with visits to departments and their work sites, outdoor field environments and sometimes in confined areas. The candidate will often walk and stand in areas of height, rough surfaces, outdoor environments, maintenance areas, dusty and dirty areas, roadways or traffic work zones, confined spaces, around heavy machinery, electrical, chemical, trenches, excavations, welding areas, mechanical areas, water plants, wastewater plants, ditches, canals, boat ramps, parks, waterways, and docks.

Outdoor environments may include hot or cold, wet, or dry locations and all hours of county operations. The candidate may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mentors and trains assigned staff.
  • Determines priorities, schedules, and assigns work as required.
  • Acts on behalf of the County Safety Manager at meetings and functions and/or when the County Safety Manager is out of office.
  • Additionally perform Industrial Hygiene Surveys to include:
    • Hazardous Noise Assessments
    • Ergonomics Evaluations
    • Illumination Studies
  • Plans and establish annual inspection schedule.
  • Ensure facilities/sites are inspected as required.
  • Develop & maintain a tracking system of safety open action items.
  • Partners with project managers, site managers with contractor site safety requirements.
  • Advises management and staff in times of high hazards and provides guidance to resolve the situation.
  • Coordinates, contributes to the preparation, planning and execution of the Quarterly Safety Action Counsel (SAC) Meetings with County Leadership. (Reviews with Safety Manager for final SAC agenda).
  • Assigns topics for discussion and training at SAC meetings.
  • Creates and maintains a listing of all assigned primary and secondary Safety Liaisons.
