Summary
The Director of Major Gifts, Individual and Family Giving, is a key front‑line Foundation fundraising leader, responsible for the planning, development, design, and implementation of gifts programs. This position is accountable for meeting ambitious and increasing financial goals. The Director will effectively manage a team of fundraisers to successfully meet annual goals; this team is anticipated to grow in the future.
Additionally, the Director will serve as the department service line liaison and main point of contact for all Department Chairs. The role maintains productivity and accountability by developing effective strategies and metrics in conjunction with the EVP, developing work plans and tactics, and ensuring they are executed successfully. The Director also manages their own portfolio of prospects, which may include all levels of prospects, including those at the Principal Gifts level, and leads by example in closing gifts to support institutional priorities.
The Director will be an experienced and seasoned philanthropy leader who maintains effective processes for measuring progress toward goals. They possess keen business and tactical acumen, recognizing and implementing new opportunities for program growth, and taking action to correct course when necessary. The Director is a driven, motivational leader who coaches and develops staff, contributes to a positive and professional working culture, and has experience within a complex organization, capable of anticipating and averting issues in fundraising proposals and the expenditure of philanthropic dollars.
RequirementsMinimum Education
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred EducationMaster's Degree
Minimum Experience RequiredA minimum of ten (10) years non‑profit fundraising experience, to include the following:
- Five (5) years leadership experience, including managing no less than two (2) Major Gift Officers or equivalent
- Five (5) years' experience in cancer fundraising
- Demonstrated track record of closing five, six, and seven figure plus gifts
- Five (5) years' experience within a complex medical research institution
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional planning and execution skills
- Personal gravitas and maturity to deal with major donors
- Excellent team leadership skills
- Proven ability to meet ambitious financial goals
More than 8 years development experience in a healthcare organization
Preferred Skills / Specialized TrainingExperience in a grateful patient fundraising setting
