The Assistant Director of Safety Operations & Emergency Management supports the Director of Auxiliary Operations by leading the school's day-to-day safety training, emergency preparedness program, and security technology systems. This role owns the day-to-day execution of campus safety protocols, manages the contracted security provider and on-site deputies, and maintains the documentation and records that keep the school prepared.

The Assistant Director of Safety Operations & Emergency Management also serves as one of the many primary points of contact for safety and security issues that arise outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and during school events, and must be reachable and able to respond when needed.

• Training, Onboarding & Accountability
  • Develop and administer safety/security onboarding for new employees and manage the annual recertification process (ALICE, VOLO).
  • Design and deliver readiness tabletop exercises for employees throughout the year.
  • Schedule, run, and log all safety-related drills including, but not limited to: fire, modified lockdown, critical incident, and severe weather drills; document outcomes and track follow-up corrective actions.
  • Track training/certification completion across departments and report gaps to administration.
  • Break down complex safety protocols into clear, age-appropriate training for varied audiences (PK-12 faculty and staff).
• Emergency Management & Readiness
  • Maintain and routinely test the school's emergency communication systems.
  • Maintain and help update the Crisis Management Manual.
  • Serve as a key operational lead during drills and actual incidents, ensuring protocols are followed and capturing after-action items.
• Security Systems Administration
  • Serve as internal system administrator for the Milestone video management system (hardware/software, camera health, footage export and delivery for legitimate school purposes).
  • Maintain accurate documentation and chain-of-custody practices for footage requests.
• Manage the day-to-day relationship with the School's contracted security provider: post coverage, scheduling, performance accountability, campus event security, and traffic/transportation flow.
• Serve as the school's primary point of contact for on-site Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies — coordinating schedules, daily presence, and information-sharing on campus safety priorities.
• Support divisional leadership during campus safety inquiries by gathering relevant information (e.g., reviewing footage, compiling timelines) and routing matters to the appropriate administrator, security vendor, or law enforcement partner as needed.
• Compliance & Documentation
  • Monitor school safety compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Track changes in emergency management requirements and make recommendations to administration.
  • Partner with Facilities Management, the Business Office, and the school's insurance partners on workplace safety and hazardous materials compliance.
  • Prepare clear, well-organized reports for drills, incidents and budget purposes.
