Position: ATHLETIC TURF MANAGER -FOOTBALL, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA

ATHLETIC TURF MANAGER – FOOTBALL (UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA, TAMPA, FL)

Position requires minimal supervision and often the ability to work alone on campus and sometimes off campus. Coordinate, supervise, and oversee all aspects of athletic field management as defined by contract – proactively solving problems. Develop, implement, and manage budget and procurement processes within established guidelines. Provide professional consultation or lead athletic field/grounds renovation projects.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement schedules for the management of athletic fields, including cultural management plans, set‑ups, stripping, and after‑event field repairs.
  • Maintain routine communication with Athletic Directors and Coaches.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans, including budgets.
  • Maintain financial records of all department funds and labor expenses.
  • Procure all materials required for a proven management program using approved vendors and within approved protocols.
  • Set up and take down fields, ensuring compliance with governing bodies (NFHS, NCAA, professional sport associations).
  • Assist in developing and implementing emergency response plans for inclement weather (snow, ice, hurricane, tornado, or other catastrophes).
  • Implement standard operating procedures, follow all protocols, and implement a quality assurance plan.
  • Implement training protocols for regulatory compliance, safety, and technical needs; document and record all training.
  • Use an environmentally sound pest management program that includes Integrated Pest Management and sustainable practices where applicable; maintain records of pest management actions.
  • Perform light maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely for employees, subordinates, students, and others who use the facilities.
  • Maintain CEUs for certifications and attend regional, state, or national training as required by RVP Grounds Management or Grounds Manager.
Requirements
  • Minimum five years of experience managing high‑profile athletic fields.
  • Minimum two‑year degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or other compatible programs.
  • Ability to promote awareness of the management program.
  • Ability to obtain a pesticide license within six months of hire for core, turf, and ornamentals categories.
  • Ability to operate athletic field/grounds management equipment.
  • Willingness to travel out of region for extended periods and work alone in unsupervised or unfamiliar environments.
  • Ability to work flexible or unscheduled hours.
  • Must provide five trade‑related and two personal references.
  • Additional certifications such as Certified Sports Field Manager, Certified Turfgrass Professional, Certified Professional Grounds Manager, Certified Grounds Manager, or related certifications are preferred.
