SUMMARY
Welds defects in castings made of heat and corrosive resistant alloys, or iron, cobalt and nickel base alloys in conformance with customer specifications and CCTC's standards for repairing castings. Performs the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
Starts power supply to produce electric current.
Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to casting.
Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
Cleans or degreases weld joint or casting.
Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
Preheats casting with hand torch or heating furnace as required.
Positions and clamps castings together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
Tacks assemblies together.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school and three to six months related experience and/or training in production welding. Previous experience welding IN-939 & FXS-414 alloys or similar, helpful.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and apply concepts of basic arithmetic.
