Forklift Operator, Material Handler
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently handle liquid and dry chemical products throughout all warehouse and transfer operations.
- Produce blended, diluted, and manufactured final products by operating and managing process equipment.
- Ensure final product meets specifications through process data and testing techniques.
- Monitor process operation and utilize equipment such as scrubbers, ventilation, bonding/grounding for safety and efficiency.
- Receive, unload, and prepare liquid and dry chemical products from trucks, tankers, and railcars.
- Maneuver and connect/disconnect transfer hoses; climb tanks, tankers, and railcars to open, close, and monitor top hatches.
- Inspect tanks, tankers, and railcars before and after loading/unloading operations.
- Verify product against receiving/shipping documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and damages.
- Perform product sampling and quality control in conjunction with laboratory personnel.
- Maintain accurate receiving/shipping logs using the appropriate computer program.
- Pick and stage product for delivery according to customer orders or other instructions.
- Operate powered and manual industrial lift trucks (with certification) and maintain daily forklift checklist.
- Move raw materials to the production area and move finished products to the warehouse.
- Lift, carry, and stage bags, pails, boxes, and pallets, including complex storage racking within operating areas.
- Repackage product into proper containers for storage or shipment.
- Fill cylinders, drums, totes, pails, or tankers with product and route to prescribed storage locations, ensuring proper labelling, stacking, or palletizing per company and regulatory requirements.
- Operate electronic scale and process devices.
- Store hazardous waste drums in the prescribed area in compliance with hazardous waste regulations.
- Examine stored product for deterioration or damage, rearrange stored materials, and assist in counting physical inventory.
- Ensure warehouse is clean, accessible, and safe for all visitors and workers; address spills promptly with cleanup.
- Protect property from theft or damage; perform other general warehouse duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or US military experience; prior experience in chemical operations (2+ years) may be considered if other requirements are not fully met.
- Forklift operators certification or ability to obtain certification; ability to operate a forklift safely.
- Strong English reading, comprehension, and written communication skills.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure.
- Ability to learn and operate technology-based devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, PLCs, and operational technology equipment.
- Meet or exceed production requirements based on information and equipment.
- Wear safety equipment as prescribed; comply with placarding rules when loading or unloading trucks.
- Participate in ongoing safety program, including safety meetings and trainings.
- Availability to work any day of the week on assigned 8-12 hour shifts; willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed.
- Maintain a good safety and attendance record; cooperate with other departments and personnel.
- Enforce all company policies and procedures.
- Pass pre‑employment drug screen, background check, E‑Verify check, and obtain a TWIC card if required for MTSA facilities.
- Physical ability to perform loading, unloading, packaging, stacking, palletizing, storage, and movement of material; stand and walk for long periods up to 95% of the day.
- Operate standing & sit‑down forklifts, pallet jacks, and drum pickers; climb stairs and ladders to the top of tanks, tankers, and rail cars.
