CNC Machinist
This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to produce high-quality precision components. You will independently perform complete machine setups, adjust and edit CNC programs, and ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements. The position requires strong technical expertise in CNC setup, tooling, fixtures, and G-code, as well as the ability to troubleshoot machining issues and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete setups on CNC mills and lathes, including configuring work-holding, tooling, and machine parameters.
- Open, read, analyze, and edit CNC programs and G-code to meet production and quality requirements.
- Adjust CNC programs to improve machine performance, optimize cycle times, and enhance part quality.
- Set and adjust tooling, tool heights, dimensions, and offsets to ensure accurate machining.
- Create and modify fixtures and work-holding solutions to support efficient and repeatable setups.
- Troubleshoot setup and machining issues to maintain production efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Verify dimensional accuracy of parts using precision measuring instruments and gauges.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications to ensure parts meet design intent.
- Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary machine or program adjustments based on inspection results.
- Assist with process improvements, including setup reduction initiatives and optimization of machining practices.
- Support programming and process refinement efforts by providing feedback on tooling, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of CNC setup experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred.
- Proven CNC setup experience on mills and lathes, beyond basic operator-level duties.
- Strong ability to read, understand, and edit CNC programs and G-code (G & M codes).
- Experience setting tool and work offsets accurately and efficiently.
- Fixture and tooling setup experience, including creating and adjusting work-holding solutions.
- Ability to independently set up and troubleshoot CNC equipment with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, including feeds, speeds, and cutting tools.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications.
- Proficiency in using precision measurement equipment to verify part dimensions.
- Hands-on experience with CNC mills and CNC lathes, including setup and operation.

- Experience with 3-axis CNC machines.
- Experience with 4-axis CNC machines.
- Experience with 5-axis CNC machines.
- Experience with horizontal mills.
- Experience with CNC lathes and multi-axis machining centers.
- Background in programming or modifying CNC programs to improve efficiency and quality.
- Participation in process improvement or setup reduction initiatives.

Work Environment
The role is based in an indoor machine shop that is slightly air conditioned, providing a comfortable and controlled environment for precision machining. You will work as part of a team of approximately 34 people, in a collaborative setting where teamwork is valued. Each machinist has their own station or machining area, allowing for focus and ownership of assigned work while still contributing to shared goals.
The environment includes modern CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis machining centers, with an emphasis on safety, organization, and maintaining a clean workspace.

This is a Permanent position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $83200.00/yr.
