SUMMARY - Ultrasonic Testing Operator

UT operator uses part specific work instructions to calibrate UT equipment and measure casting wall thickness. Data point templates are used to mark data locations on the castings, and the data is reviewed by the UT operator for accept or reject of the castings wall thickness. Acceptable parts must be degreased, dried and moved to next routed operation. Rejected parts are cleaned and moved to MRB pending.

Data recorded must be saved in the Windows XL data program for engineering review. UT operator calibrates and uses ultrasonic testing equipment to measure casting wall thickness. Grades castings against parts specific UT work instruction for dimensional requirements. Records data for engineering and separates non-conforming product and moves good product to next routed operation. Performs ultrasonic inspections of metal stainless steel/nickel-based alloy/cobalt-based alloy investment castings for wall thickness measurements.

This position will also train in other NDT techniques once fully trained in UT and when business dictates need.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform UT Equipment calibrations, marking product with data point locations, operation of foot pedal to store data in software program, review of data for out of tolerance readings, and cleaning product when test has been completed.
  • Candidates shall be able to complete 24 hours of classroom training and 275 hours of work experience/on the job training. Passing a general exam, specific exam, and practical exam is required for certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English, such as safety rules, general standard procedures, and part specific work instructions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision with at least Snellen 20/25 in one eye corrected or non-corrected.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
