Job Title: Florida Green Schools Intern

Department: Florida Chapter

Location: Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater Area

Reports to: Organizing Manager

Duration: 11‑20 hours per week for 6 months;
August – February

Overview

Provide support to the Sierra Club Florida Chapter’s green‑team lead, volunteer staff, and community partners to strengthen environmental education and outreach programs for students across the state.

Responsibilities

Assist the green‑team lead and chapter staff in building a database of Florida Sierra Club members interested in student outreach.

Coordinate with public and private organizations to grow the program and raise awareness of Sierra Club activities.

Identify Sierra Club Florida groups and document schools offering AP Environmental Sciences or similar programs for possible collaboration.

Help develop a scholarship program for teachers and graduating seniors, recommending grant opportunities to the committee.

Keep the Sierra Communications Team and Chapter Development Director informed about activities and successes.

Travel to Sierra Club groups and affiliated organizations statewide to increase awareness and recruit new members.

Research how Florida school districts pursue environmental goals, learn from best practices, and share insights.

Assist in planning and executing educational campaigns and fundraising events.

Draft and edit volunteer correspondence, including thank‑you letters, newsletter articles, social media outreach, and campaign updates.

Complete other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience or strong interest in writing, environmental justice, working with students, and grassroots environmental action.
Proficiency in Google Suite or Microsoft Word and video conferencing tools; experience with Salesforce is a plus.
Good time‑management skills.
Committed to self‑growth; demonstrates humility, openness, and a willingness to learn about privilege and power.
Adopts a constructive, can‑do attitude, sense of humor, and authentic kindness.

Additional Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. This hybrid role includes virtual and in‑person meetings; some evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
