Hawthorne Oncology Pain Experts (HOPE) is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) with experience in pain management, palliative care, and/or hospice care to join our growing specialty practice. This role is predominantly hospital-based (approximately 80%), with limited clinic responsibilities (approximately 20%).
The APP will play a critical role in the care of patients with complex cancer-related and chronic pain, working closely with the founding physician and existing APP to deliver compassionate, high‑acuity, and highly coordinated care across the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Primary Responsibilities Hospital-Based Clinical Care (Majority of Role)- Perform new inpatient consultations
, follow‑up visits, and daily hospital rounds at Tampa General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Baycare, with the potential to add a third location in the near future - Manage patients with complex cancer pain, advanced chronic pain, and palliative symptom needs
- Coordinate and prepare charts, orders, and documentation for hospital‑based procedures and surgeries
- Complete comprehensive documentation, including consult notes, progress notes, pre‑operative and post‑operative notes, and discharge summaries
- Collaborate closely with the supervising physician, hospital teams, nursing staff, and consulting services
- Participate in hospital‑based pain management, palliative care planning, and symptom optimization
- Alternating weekly call coverage shared with the existing APP
- Call responsibilities include:
- In‑hospital consultations
- Daily rounds while on call
- Support HOPE’s Cancer Care & Hospital after‑hours line
, with escalation to supervising or attending physician as appropriate
- Provide outpatient clinic coverage when the physician or other APP is out of office
- Conduct patient evaluations, follow‑up visits, and ongoing pain management care
- Prescribe medications and treatment plans appropriate to each patient’s condition
- Order and review diagnostic testing, including imaging and laboratory studies
- Perform pre‑procedure and pre‑operative preparation
, including chart review, order entry, and care coordination - Assist with intrathecal drug delivery (pain pump) management and refills (training and supervision provided)
- Hands‑on procedural assistance is not required
; may be role‑dependent and limited by licensure and hospital policy
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- National Advanced Practice Certification from an approved nursing specialty board
- Current DEA license
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Highly preferred experience in one or more of the following:
- Pain management
- Oncology
- Palliative care or hospice care
- Opioid and complex analgesic management
- Symptom management in advanced illness
- Intrathecal drug delivery systems (pain pumps)
- Bilingual skills preferred, but not required
- Hospital‑dominant clinical role with shared call responsibilities
