Position Overview
Bay Care Medical Group (BMG) is seeking Physician Assistants (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) to join a well-established neurosurgical team at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a 615-bed Level II Trauma Center in Tampa, Florida
. This role is heavily inpatient and emergency-focused, supporting a high-acuity neurosurgical population in a fast-paced hospital setting. The current team includes four board-certified neurosurgeons supported by four APPs, providing comprehensive care across cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve conditions for both adult and pediatric patients.
- Night shift role: 5:00 PM – 7:30 AM (averaging ~34 hours/week)
- 3-night block scheduling (weekday or weekend rotations), structured as two weeks on, then one week off
- Continuous in-house coverage:
One neurosurgery APP onsite at all times - Primarily inpatient/emergency-based care with no outpatient responsibilities
- Provide inpatient neurosurgical care, including consults, admissions, and cross-coverage
- Manage urgent and emergent neurosurgical patients in collaboration with the surgical team
- Support post-operative care and patient stabilization overnight
- Work closely with neurosurgeons, ICU teams, and hospital staff in a high-acuity, team-based environment
- Participate in a collaborative model focused on efficient, high-quality patient care
- High-acuity, hands-on clinical experience in a Level II Trauma Center
- Strong, supportive physician-led team environment

- Experience in an acute care, inpatient, or emergency setting required
- Prior neurosurgery, critical care, or surgical experience preferred
- Acute Care certification required for APRNs
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage complex patients independently overnight
- Surgical First Assist or RNFA certification preferred
- Board certified (PA/APRN) with Florida licensure (or ability to obtain)
- Eligible for hospital medical staff privileges
