POSITION SUMMARY

A technician position is available in the lab of Dr. DaZhi Wang, Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine. The selected candidate will work with lab members on projects investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate muscle development and growth, and their role in human disease. The lab employs mouse cardiac and skeletal muscle models, as well as tissue culture. In particular, the lab studies transcriptional regulation and the roles of and mechanisms for noncoding RNA‑mediated posttranscriptional regulation.

Ongoing studies are focused on the role of multiple lncRNAs in the regulation of gene expression in mouse models and normal and diseased cardiovascular states.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with research design and management of the lab, including operation and maintenance of equipment and training lab members in use of equipment.
  • Design and perform bench‑level experiments (molecular biology, cell biology/tissue culture).
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data for presentation and publication, and maintain experimental records.
  • Prepare reports, tables, and figures and accurately present compiled findings to PI/lab members for use in manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Assist with mouse colony maintenance and animal experiments/surgery.
  • Assist with other research‑related tasks as needed.
  • Participate in lab meetings, grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • As a team, work toward advancing your own career goals.
Qualifications

MINIMUM:

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience. College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a yearly basis.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with molecular biology and tissue culture techniques.
  • Comfortable handling animals (mice) as mouse colony management is a required duty.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
  • Able to seek and obtain feedback from peers and colleagues.
  • Prior experience with tissue culture would be an asset.
  • Prior experience performing echocardiography on mice would be an asset.
  • Excellent organization skills and familiarity with word processing and imaging software.

Senate Bill 1310:
Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements. A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:

  • Two years of direct experience for an associate degree.
  • Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree.
  • Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree.
  • Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

Minimum qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
