Summary
We are seeking a Research Specialist III to join the Tissue Core Team at Moffitt Cancer Center. The Tissue Core is the institution’s central biorepository, providing high‑quality, annotated biospecimens for oncology research. The role supports biospecimen banking, clinical trials, and research studies across basic, population, clinical, and translational disciplines.
Responsibilities- Perform general histology procedures and maintain quality throughout the workflow.
- Develop and implement protocols for advanced, non‑clinical histotechnology workflows requiring specialized training.
- Assist and train clients in instrument operation and conduct regular laboratory maintenance and quality control.
- Exercise independent judgment to design methods, evaluate outcomes, and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Participate in in‑house courses, seminars, and workshops related to core activities and cancer biology.
- Support the development of new histological technologies and techniques.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including Biorepository Coordinators, Staff Scientists, and Research Pathologists, to coordinate research projects.
- BA/BS in a core‑related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- At least five years of science‑related work experience and/or postgraduate coursework.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a core facility and two years of research‑based technology experience.
- Florida State License as a Histotechnologist (required); ASCP license preferred.
- Annual Human Subjects Training (e.g., CITI).
- Core‑specific licensure and/or certifications as applicable.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain structured workflows.
- Strong analytical skills and commitment to high‑quality, accurate results.
