Position: APPLIED POST DOC FELLOW
Working at Moffitt is both a career and a mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

As the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, Moffitt employs some of the best and brightest minds from around the world. Join a dedicated team of nearly 11,000 who are shaping the future we envision. Moffitt has been recognized as a Best and Brightest Company to Work For in the Nation and is continually named one of the Tampa Bay Times’ Top Workplaces.

Summary To support the launch and growth of Moffitt’s new Department of Translational Pathology, we are recruiting Applied Postdoctoral Fellows (MDs with formal anatomic pathology training) to accelerate biomarker-guided oncology and strengthen clinic-to-lab translation. Fellows receive advanced research training while contributing to team-based efforts and leading focused projects under limited supervision. Chaired by Ignacio Wistuba, MD, the Department of Translational Pathology bridges research and clinical care by embedding discovery into clinical-trial correlative studies and biomarker development.

In partnership with Moffitt’s Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) program, the department is building integrated platforms spanning molecular and immunologic profiling, spatial “omics,” genomic profiling, and computational pathology to rapidly translate insights into trials that inform treatment decisions and personalize care. Training opportunities emphasize solid tumors and hematologic malignancies across histology, IHC, multiplex IF, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics, and data-driven pathology. Position Highlights:
The Applied Postdoctoral Fellow will:
• Contribute to multi-modality translational studies that generate abstracts, publications, and new diagnostic/therapeutic approaches.
• Lead or co-lead multiple projects with clear scholarly deliverables, including meeting abstracts and manuscript submissions across the first two years.
• Work in a highly collaborative, well-resourced environment that integrates patient care with cutting-edge clinical and basic research.
• Receive outstanding mentorship from expert, well-funded faculty (including T32 programs) and support to pursue individual training/fellowship grants.

The Ideal Candidate :
• Formal training in anatomic pathology.
• To be interested in having training in novel cytology and pathology-related research methodologies.
• Having a collaborative spirit and being interested in learning the role of translational pathology approaches in the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in cancer.
• Having an analytical mind and basic knowledge of computer software to maintain and analyze data, as well as summarize data and prepare presentations. Responsibilities:
• Conduct histopathologic review of tumor and clinical-trial tissue specimens, including tissue microarray support and tissue-based assay workflows.
• Generate and interpret biomarker data (IHC, multiplex IF, spatial omics) and provide pathology input for computational pathology/AI initiatives.
• Collaborate with clinical pathologists and internal/external partners (e.g., Tissue Core, translational and working-group meetings) to support translational studies.
• Lead quality control/assurance activities for retrospective and prospective specimens; maintain the QA program.
• Design and execute supervised research projects; record, analyze, and present data; and assist with shared lab equipment/work-area upkeep. Credentials and

Qualifications:

• MD degree, with formal training in anatomic pathology of at least 3 years.
• Experience in initiating, conducting, evaluating and reporting of research studies is preferred.
• Demonstrated pre-doctoral working knowledge of research methodologies in an area of research. Moffitt Applied Postdocs enjoy comprehensive medical coverage, with Moffitt covering the premium effective your very first day. In addition to this valuable benefit, you’ll also be eligible for dental and vision insurance, generous paid time off, retirement, parental leave, and much more.
