Summary The Nurse Scientist provides leadership, consultation, and oversight in all aspects of nursing research to nurses at all levels throughout the Center. The Nurse Scientist collaborates with the Director of Nursing Research and shared governance councils to ensure an organizational culture that encourages and supports the development of research topics, the pursuit of funding as appropriate, the conduct of the research project, and the dissemination of findings.

The Nurse Scientist seeks opportunities to collaborate on research studies within and outside Moffitt Cancer Center. Pursuit of one's own body of research is encouraged.

Training

Required:

Principal investigator on 3 or more research projects preferred; author or co-author in peer-reviewed data-driven publications; grant recipient, experience in oncology nursing is highly desirable, as well as experience mentoring staff nurses on the conduct of research.

Extensive knowledge of all phases of the research process and various scientific designs

Proficient in using electronic bibliographic databases to conduct information searches

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
Extensive knowledge of ethical issues that arise in the design and conduct of research

Ability to read and critique research proposals submitted by other researchers for feasibility, scientific merit and appropriate level of approval
