Position Overview

As a Sales Associate on our General Rentals team, you’ll embark on a structured training path designed to prepare you for a future role as an Outside Sales Representative. The training takes place at a local branch and includes shadowing sales and operational roles, a digital onboarding class, outbound sales campaigns across construction verticals, and mastery of United Rentals sales tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shadow sales and operational staff to understand the equipment‑rental lifecycle.
  • Participate in outbound sales campaigns exposing you to various construction verticals, customer spend levels, general vs. specialty equipment rentals, and both new and existing customer segments.
  • Use CRM, inventory management platforms, customer portal, and mobile applications to manage leads and accounts.
  • Lead high‑level sales conversations that involve price negotiations, multi‑piece rental requests, government and educational agreements, equipment service contracts, and the sale of used equipment at the end of its rental life.
  • Deliver proven sales methodologies to provide solutions for customers and drive revenue growth.
  • Attend local team initiatives such as safety huddles, customer appreciation events, yard sale events, entertainment outings, charity drives, and internal workshops.
  • Track Sales Development progress through achievement levels, real‑time performance metrics, and peer‑ranked competitions.
  • Receive daily feedback from corporate and local leadership, call coaching, and ride‑along opportunities.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in a customer‑facing sales role (preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient computer and mobile phone/tablet skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must live within reasonable driving distance of assigned branch and report on‑site M-F.
Training & Career Path

Most Sales Associates spend 4-6 months in the Sales Development Program (SDP) before promotion to an Outside Sales Representative (OSR). The timeline depends on market conditions and individual performance. Additional duties, as assigned, may include supporting the sales process, customer visits, and team events.
