Position Highlights
The Armed Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. This position is responsible for responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including active threats and alarm activations, while enforcing institutional policies such as the weapons-free campus. The officer conducts regular security patrols, monitors surveillance systems, and investigates incidents to uphold safety standards.
Additionally, the role involves assisting with calls for medical aid, managing sensitive situations like employee termination and prisoner security, and providing exceptional customer service by supporting screening processes, access control, and visitor assistance. This position demands vigilance, sound judgment, and the ability to manage diverse security-related tasks with professionalism and care.
- Respond to emergency situations, particularly high-risk events such as armed threats or active shooter incidents, as well as disturbances and escalated incidents involving patients, visitors, staff, and guests.
- Conduct regular security patrols and monitor camera systems to ensure compliance with regulations and secure premises.
- Ensure all security-sensitive areas are properly secured.
- Conduct investigations and write reports on incidents including criminal activity, slip and fall accidents, workplace violence, employee misconduct, and traffic crashes. Proficiency with security tools (firearm, taser, handcuffs) and security systems (cameras, alarms, access control).
- High School Education/GED required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of security experience in a hospital setting is required.
- Law enforcement, military service, or military police experience may be substituted on a one-for-one basis.
- A valid Florida driver’s license is required upon hire.
- Florida Class "G" Firearm License within 90 days of hire
- BLS w/ CPR (must obtain within six (6) months of hire)
- Florida Class "D" Security Officer License obtain within 90 days of hire
- 10 years of law enforcement experience. Supervisory experience in law enforcement or a hospital security setting.
- Investigative experience.
- Law Enforcement Investigations experience.
- Experience as a supervisor.
- Experience working with video monitoring technology.
- Experience with report writing software.
- IAHSS Basic and Advanced Certifications.
