Security Forces Officer

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of a Security Forces Flight/Section, ensuring that personnel comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Performs and enforces the full spectrum of Police Officer duties within the assigned federal jurisdiction. Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within Federal Jurisdiction.

Performs the full range of installation perimeter access control duties. Performs the full range of duties for defending Protection Level Resources. Patrols restricted/controlled areas, responds to security incidents and performs immediate visual assessments. Perform emergency response and incident command and control.

• Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
• Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
• This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
• Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
• Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
• Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended 30 Sep 96.
• Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition.
• Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests to include:
• running, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.
• Must be able to obtain a SECRET Security Clearance.
• Must wear a uniform and meet applicable dress and appearance standards as identified in current AFI.
• Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
• Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).
• Incumbent must be able to operate Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
• Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646.

Qualifications Continued from Conditions of Employment:

• Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by HAF/A4S and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification.
• Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties.
• Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.
• Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
• Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, (e.g. Employing "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques as a member of a small team is required).
• This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
