Responsibilities- Move heavy duty vehicles into or out of yard, wash bay, service shop, or delivered to rental shop. Wash and detail vehicles manually or using equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles properly while adhering to shop safety policies; record fuel activity and maintain proper fuel and DEF inventories and reconciliation; use hand held devices to identify customer and required services.
- Perform multi-point inspections on inbound units as required by company policies and procedures; check vehicle tire pressure and tread, fluid levels, lights, wash vehicle windows, change tires, inspect refrigeration units on trucks, and report service or driver issues to shop.
- Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform some facility maintenance and minor maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments, including hands-on and online training in areas such as Service Island Training, Vehicle Fueling and Washing, Environmental Safety & Spill Response, Safe Driving, Service Island Organization & Cleanliness, Preventive Maintenance, Tire and Wheel, Service Bay Tools, HD Electrical, and Air and Hydraulic Brakes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Zero to one (1) year mechanical experience working with, and maintaining, primarily diesel engines preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Proficiency in English written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and strong technical aptitude with ability to learn to use and maintain equipment and machinery.
- Ability to troubleshoot quickly, work independently and as part of a team, professionally represent Ryder to employees and customers, and manage time effectively.
- Must have a track record of performance and good attendance; basic computer skills and Microsoft Office familiarity; beginner knowledge of machines and tools and shop management systems preferred.
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred; DOT safety regulated position; safety sensitive position; minimum age and work hours determined by state law.
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
- Pass a Ryder drug test, a DOT physical, a Ryder road test, and a Ryder background and motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from the previous three years.
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
