Overview

The Fleet Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs while coordinating with the Lead Technician and Fleet Manager. This role is responsible for performing repairs and preventative maintenance on all assigned fleet vehicles and equipment at their assigned location and its satellites as needed. Uses diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and repair issues efficiently.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Lead Technician for daily operations, work orders, and scheduling.

Required Technical Knowledge
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems including gasoline, diesel, cooling systems, and fuel systems. (Primarily emphasizing equipment such as skid steers, excavators, and the like, as well as trucks)
  • Able to diagnose mechanical problems, using tools like diagnostic software, scanners, gauges, and meters to identify problems accurately.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and schedules to ensure equipment/vehicle reliability and longevity. This includes lubrication, inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and components, including wiring diagrams, circuits, batteries, alternators, starters, sensors, and electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Familiar with computerized control systems, and automated technologies commonly used in newer machinery and vehicles.
  • Able to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to understand equipment layouts, dimensions, tolerances, and assembly sequences.
  • Safety regulations, codes, and standards applicable to mechanical work, including OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and industry-specific guidelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required to explain technical issues and solutions clearly to non-technical company members.
Regular Execution
  • Preventive Maintenance:
    Conduct preventative maintenance for all fleet vehicles and equipment to reduce downtime and improve operational readiness.
  • Repairs:
    Address repairs of company assets from initial diagnosis and/or asset recovery to work order conclusion, to include researching parts and coordinating.
  • Maintain

    X System:
    All work orders, including time spent, costs and parts used, and completed tasks, must be logged into Maintain

    X. This ensures transparency and allows for real-time tracking of maintenance status.
  • Adherence to Safety Standards:
    Mechanics must follow all safety protocols, including the use of protective equipment, proper lifting techniques, and compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Mechanic Sync:
    Periodic (monthly or biweekly) meetings will occur either in-person or via a digital format between all mechanics and the Fleet Manager. This meeting is intended to give mechanics the opportunity for knowledge sharing and feedback for each other and the Fleet Manager regarding policy, prioritization, and specific work orders.
Required Outputs
  • Facilitating regular inspections of mechanical equipment to identify defects, wear and tear, or potential issues.
  • Maintains/produces documentation and records related to maintenance, equipment specifications, and repair history.
