Position

Summary

Under limited supervision, perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Tasks span maintenance trades including carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Conduct routine inspections to determine required repairs to prevent breakdowns. Use hand and power tools, blueprints, drawings, and specifications. May train or check the work of other facilities staff.

Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair organization's facilities and properties involving routine tasks and responsibilities. Correct minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural problems. Paint structures and equipment as needed. Document installation and repairs as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Repair appliances and equipment. Operate and service boilers, chillers, motors, fans, pumps and related mechanical equipment. Estimate time and material costs of various projects. Requisition new supplies and equipment.
  • Review maintenance records to identify recurring deficiencies; plan and implement corrective maintenance or repairs.
  • May troubleshoot and repair all building HVAC related equipment.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Will drive vehicle to other locations.
  • Scope

    Considerable knowledge of job. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of general and detailed aspects of the job. Contact with individuals representing other departments and/or outside organizations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: High School or equivalent required. May require a trade license.

    Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Related experience includes painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work.

    Skills & Abilities: Basic writing and communication skills. May require basic computer skills. May have on-call duties. Ability to work on a team. A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

    Travel: Will drive vehicle to other locations.

    * Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

    Physical Requirements

    Regularly use hands, reach, talk or hear. Regularly lift and move objects 10-50 lbs; may move >100 lbs with assistance or powered equipment. Push carts up to 250 lbs. Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. May sit and climb or balance. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus. May climb ladders. Use hand and power tools and handle chemicals and solvents.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Must be an experienced Handyman. Comfortable with HVAC systems. Familiar with plumbing issues. Electrical switching out light fixtures. Comfortable climbing ladders. Comfortable with working with volunteers.
