Diesel Technician

Position Overview

Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Tampa, Florida offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a career you can feel good about.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance.
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs.
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable.
• Identifies root cause of failures and performs repairs as required.
• Replaces defective components as instructed.
• Performs facility maintenance duties.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task.
• Utilizes key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
• Works in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support.

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree, or technical certification (preferred).
• Basic tools required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, brake and tire work.
• Two (2) years or more of classroom training and work experience in the required area (preferred).
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred).
• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years.

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records check and a road test, and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
