Position: Webber - Bridge Technician I - Infrastructure Management

Position Summary

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all structures including movable bridges, fixed bridges, culverts, overhead sign structures, high‑mast lighting and bridge fender systems in accordance with the standards and conditions specified in the contract and as directed by the supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair highway structures including concrete, structural steel, welding, expansion joints, carpentry and painting as required.
  • Create safe Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) control by setting up and removing traffic control devices such as cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.
  • Work comfortably from heights in bucket trucks, snow sweepers, scaffolding, ladders, and aerial platform lifts.
  • Repair and maintain the functionality of bridge and culvert slopes, berms, drains, etc., using shovels and other hand or power tools.
  • Control vegetation appearance and growth using lawn mowing equipment, hand or power trimmers, and chemical sprayers.
  • Maintain the appearance and functionality of bridge fender systems, including navigational signs, lighting, and all structural elements.
  • Work in and around water and from boats as required.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites using large trucks, specialized motor vehicles, and trailers.
  • Be available for emergency response rotations, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Understand structures maintenance and recognize hazards inherent in routine and non‑routine tasks.
  • Practice safe work methods to remain accident and injury free and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with co‑workers and supervisors.
  • Perform basic math functions and understand instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Education and Experience
  • HS Diploma or GED (Required).
  • One year of work experience in construction, maintenance and repair (preferred).
  • CDL, DOT certifications, Electrical and Welding Certifications (highly desirable).
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (Required).
Work Conditions / Physical Demands
  • Respond 24 hours a day for after‑hour emergency calls necessitated by accidents and/or bridge malfunctions.
  • Stand, sit, walk on a wide range of surfaces; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric powered tools and equipment.
  • Expose to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, wet and humid conditions, high places, fumes or airborne particles, occasional toxic or caustic chemicals, and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Work in tight spaces and be comfortable working in and around water and from boats.
