Burgess Civil is seeking a dedicated and reliable Environmental Health & Safety Foreman to support our stormwater compliance efforts under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program. This field-based position plays a critical role in helping the company meet its environmental obligations on active construction sites by ensuring proper installation, inspection, and maintenance of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). The Technician will work under the supervision of the Environmental Foreman and collaborate with project teams across multiple job sites in the Tampa Bay region.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of stormwater BMPs (e.g., silt fence, turbidity barriers, inlet protection, stabilized construction entrances, sediment basins).
- Perform housekeeping and erosion control tasks such as sweeping, pressure washing, hand digging, and debris removal around stormwater infrastructure.
- Document field activities, including BMP inspections, maintenance logs, and material usage, in compliance with project-specific Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
- Load and unload erosion control materials and tools and safely transport them to and from job sites.
- Support the Environmental Foreman in preparing job sites for regulatory inspections and assist during FDEP, SWFWMD, FDOT, and third-party audits.
- Identify and report potential environmental hazards or stormwater compliance issues to the Environmental Foreman.
- Operate small tools and light equipment (e.g., power augers, string trimmers, blowers) safely and effectively.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of environmental work areas, laydown yards, and storage areas.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding labor.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience in construction, erosion control, or environmental fieldwork is a plus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be safety conscious and willing to wear required PPE at all times.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to reach job sites throughout Tampa and surrounding areas.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform strenuous outdoor labor on uneven terrain.
- Familiarity with FDOT, FDEP, and/or NPDES stormwater regulations.
- Experience reading or interpreting SWPPP plans or environmental permit documents.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
This is a field position with exposure to heat, rain, dust, and construction site hazards.
Work hours may vary based on project needs, including early mornings or weekends.
Travel to multiple job sites within the Tampa Bay region is required.
