About the RoleThe Meter Technician is responsible for reading meters in a timely manner, meeting all required deadlines and levels of accuracy.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Performs meter reads and rereads accurately and as scheduled using electronic hand‑held or mobile devices.
- Reports damaged meters, broken meter locks, suspected gas leaks, possible gas theft, and atmospheric corrosion.
- Ensures all meters and risers are marked with company decals and apartment numbers.
- Installs, replaces, and programs automated meter reading devices.
- Performs atmospheric corrosion surveys for above‑ground piping.
- Performs atmospheric corrosion remedial action, such as wire brushing/repainting.
- Performs other metering activity, such as turn‑offs and meter removals, as required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school/institution.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Basic map reading skills.
- Ability to operate computers, communication devices, power tools, and equipment appropriate to the position.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, basic algebra and geometry).
- Sound judgment, ability to follow complex oral and written instructions, and clear verbal and written communication.
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Knowledge of the geographic area.
- Must operate a company vehicle to reach designated job assignments.
- Must be willing to work in all types of weather and walk for long periods of time throughout the day.
- Must be able to handle being confronted by dogs and act appropriately.
- Must be able to work required overtime hours as needed.
- Must be able to respond to gas emergencies and/or business needs within divisional guidelines.
- Independent operation of a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
- Independent entry/exit of a motor vehicle during an eight‑hour shift.
- Bending and stooping requiring full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
- Kneeling or crouching by bending knees to come to rest at knees and bending body downward and forward.
- Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time.
- Grasping/handling small hand tools and other objects by applying pressure with fingers and palms.
- Pull, push, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Vision correctable to 20/40.
- No average hearing loss greater than 40 decibels in the better ear at frequencies of 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz with or without a hearing aid.
- Ability to smell gas odorant in normal concentrations.
- Perform repetitive motions by extending arms and hands in any direction with substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Rotate and revolve body to face in another direction.

Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
Pre‑EmploymentScreening
The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre‑employment screening once an offer has been accepted. A pre‑employment drug screening, as well as a background check (including education, employment, criminal and motor vehicle) will also be conducted as part of the pre‑employment screening. A physical may be conducted if required for the role.
