Service Electrician / UPS Systems Technician (Tampa, Florida)
This full‑time, permanent position requires reading, interpreting, and executing drawings, schematics, blueprints, and electrical code specifications for commercial electrical equipment installations.
Strong communication skills and teamwork are essential. Candidates must stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
Typical Duties- Perform initial assessments of UPS systems and establish maintenance baselines for all assigned equipment.
- Execute scheduled preventative maintenance and thorough inspections on UPS systems, including electrical connections, breakers, wiring, controls, capacitors, contractors, inverter/rectifier components, and related infrastructure.
- Conduct annual system testing, including load transfer testing, battery discharge testing, and Emergency Power Off (EPO) validation.
- Diagnose and repair UPS system failures, alarms, and power quality issues to maintain operational reliability.
- Respond to emergency and non‑emergency service calls within required response time frames and perform corrective maintenance as needed.
- Perform battery inspections, testing, replacements, and lifecycle evaluations, monitoring cell voltage, resistance, temperature, DC voltage, and ripple current.
- Complete component replacements, system adjustments, and temporary power solutions to support uninterrupted operations.
- Utilize monitoring platforms and work order systems to track alarms, system performance, battery health, environmental conditions, asset data, and service activities.
- Generate detailed service reports documenting inspections, testing results, system conditions, completed repairs, and recommended corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventative maintenance documentation, and compliance reporting to support audit readiness and environmental regulations.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification Requirements: Journeyman's License preferred
Experience Requirements- 5+ years of experience in:
- Electrical systems (commercial/industrial)
- UPS systems, power distribution, or critical power environments
- Strong knowledge of:
- 1‑phase and 3‑phase electrical systems
- Battery systems (VRLA, lithium‑ion preferred)
- Electrical testing equipment and diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- One‑line diagrams
- Equipment manuals
- Work assignments may vary based on client requirements.
- Work may be performed inside a large facility or in the field. Environmental conditions can include hot, dusty, cold, wet, icy, or windy climates.
- Regular attendance and adherence to an established work schedule is mandatory.
- Ability to work any shift or designated hours required.
- May need to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work.
- This position may require night and weekend work and could include travel to areas with varying field conditions.
- May require climbing ladders, working at heights, and in confined spaces such as under raised floors or inside server racks.
- Must possess the capability to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended durations; operate in noisy environments with temperatures above or below standard office conditions; lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Daily activities include sitting at a desk, phone use, and PC/laptop operation.
- General office equipment: PCs/laptops, telephones, copiers, servers, switches, routers, and other computer equipment that support the network environment.
- General field equipment: hand tools, power tools, ladders, aerial/motorized lifts, and test equipment.
- Operation of motor vehicles may be required; a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are mandatory.
- Travel requirements vary; not all positions require travel.
- A current passport is required for overseas travel.
