PositionThe Peer Specialist will work in partnership with young adults turning 18 in licensed foster care settings who participate in RTI programs or services such as Extended Foster Care (EFC), Postsecondary Education Services and Supports (PESS), and Aftercare (AC). The Peer Specialist acts as a point of contact with lived experience in foster care and Independent Living Services to provide support to youth and young adults currently receiving or re-entering services by helping them troubleshoot barriers in accessing IL programs, navigate and follow through with specialized supports and services for their circumstances.
This position helps connect community resources and personal services, influence social media and professional networking, and co-facilitate Youth Empowerment council meetings and other support groups and youth advocacy activities. The Peer Specialist will also assist the Youth Success Coaches, Facilitators, Specialists, and Case Managers as needed and available.
- Partner with young adults turning 18 in licensed foster care settings to support access to RTI programs and services (EFC, PESS, AC).
- Provide guidance and troubleshooting to help youth navigate Independent Living Services and related supports.
- Connect youth with community resources and personal services.
- Influence professional networking and participate in relevant outreach activities.
- Co-facilitate Youth Empowerment council meetings and other support groups and advocacy activities.
- Support Youth Success Coaches, Facilitators, Specialists, and Case Managers as needed.
- Minimum:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). - Preferred:
Associate or other accredited vocational degree with a major in counseling, social work, sociology, psychology, or related social sciences/human services. - Independent Living Service or Foster Care experience.
