Position Title: Recreation Camp Leader
Department: Parks and Recreation
Schedule: Part-Time | Varying Hours
The City of St. Cloud is seeking a motivated Part‑Time Recreation Camp Leader to assist with youth camp and recreation programs. This position plans, directs, and coordinates a variety of recreational activities, adapting programs to available facilities and the interests of participating children.
Responsibilities- Conduct registration and account for funds collected.
- Offer a schedule of diverse programs including sports, games, arts and crafts, songs, drama, storytelling, trips and tours.
- Research, recommend, purchase, receive, and issue recreation equipment and ensure its maintenance.
- Inspect facilities and equipment, and report maintenance needs.
- Assist with interviewing, recommending, training, and monitoring staff, counselors, and volunteers, including payroll time sheets.
- Direct camp staff daily and enforce camp rules, ensuring camper safety.
- Complete incident and accident reports and inform parents of any disciplinary issues.
- Assist with camp set‑up and breakdown.
- Comply with department policies, maintain daily attendance and activity reports, and attend staff meetings.
- Assist with monitoring summer camp and address minor parental issues.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- High School graduation or GED equivalent plus one year of summer camp recreation leadership experience or related recreation/physical education experience.
- Current First Aid Certification.
- Current CPR Certification.
The employee is frequently required to remain stationary, reach with hands and arms, and communicate. The employee is occasionally required to move, ascend or descend, crouch or crawl, and must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Mathematics: calculate discounts, percentages, basic algebra and geometry.
- Language: read and comprehend instructions, write simple correspondence, present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
- Work with young people, secure adherence to rules, and enforce safe practices.
- Reasoning: apply common sense, solve problems involving several concrete variables.
