The Family Support Advisor is a grant-funded role dedicated to collaborating with professional social and educational services to assist students and families in accessing health, financial, vocational, and social services. This position involves modeling and enforcing company policies and procedures, while working closely with staff, students, and families to address various barriers to student success.
Primary Responsibilities- Design and implement support systems tailored to students' social, emotional, behavioral, medical, financial, and life skills needs in alignment with the School's vision and mission.
- Utilize counseling strategies or ensure on-site providers employ these strategies to prepare students socially and emotionally, optimizing their instructional time.
- Cultivate and sustain collaborative, effective relationships with staff, students, families, and the community through skill-building seminars.
- Establish Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with local colleges and universities to set up ALS schools as clinical internship sites for Social Work, Mental Health, and School Counseling programs. Supervise clinical interns as required.
- Assist in the student orientation process.
- Document all services rendered to students and families according to ALS policies and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct home visits to foster connections between home and school.
- Coordinate home, school, and community resources to mitigate crisis situations.
- Lead initiatives outlined in the School's Mental Health Plan, including mandatory outcome reporting.
- Stay informed about current trends and community resources, sharing insights with teachers, staff, and administrators.
- Perform additional duties as required to achieve student educational and behavioral goals while adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Counseling and/or social work theory and practices.
- Applicable local, state, and federal policies and laws regarding student services, including FERPA and HIPAA, child abuse, and bullying/harassment laws.
- Community social and family resources, trends, and opportunities.
- Correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Record-keeping techniques.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Telephone etiquette and techniques.
- A Master's Degree from an accredited institution in social work, with credentials to serve as an official clinical field supervisor for clinical interns.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with over-age and/or at-risk youth is preferred.
- Experience in education, social services, and community services is essential to support students in achieving high school graduation and developing vital 21st Century skills.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Computer literacy is required.
- Bilingual skills are preferred.
