Job Functions

Provides individual and group counseling services to clients within residential, off‑site programs, and the surrounding community served by the Counseling & Resiliency Center. Collaborates with other departments to provide expert consultation on client mental health and recovery needs, ensuring a holistic approach to care. Develops and implements programming that fosters healing from trauma, incorporating protective and resiliency‑focused elements, with an emphasis on the Sanctuary Model of Trauma‑Informed Care.

Provides supervision and guidance to master’s‑level interns, supporting their professional growth and clinical development.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Deliver trauma‑informed counseling services (individual, couples, and family) to community clients, and those in Metropolitan Ministries’ residential and non‑residential programs seeking mental health support.
  • Manage a caseload in accordance with departmental needs, with flexibility to adjust caseload size as necessary to accommodate the supervision of interns.
  • Collaborate with departments, counselors, interns, and staff to support clients in adhering to their self‑sufficiency plans, especially during times of crisis. Provide recommendations and coordinate referrals as needed.
  • Design, lead, and oversee group programs (psycho educational and support) that engage clients in positive self‑development and promote personal growth.
  • Contribute to the recruitment of qualified interns from master’s‑level mental health counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy programs.
  • Assist in coordinating events and initiatives to promote the Counseling & Resiliency Center and enhance its services.
  • Provide training and guidance to interns on counseling processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct thorough counseling intakes, administer comprehensive assessments, perform chart audits, and develop individualized counseling goals to ensure client needs are met.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of client interactions in the electronic health record (EHR) and other relevant databases.
  • Support the Counseling team by assisting with daily Resiliency Center operations, attending departmental meetings, and contributing to events and activities. Offer training opportunities for staff at Metropolitan Ministries to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Director to meet counseling team staffing needs, adhere to grant requirements, and achieve organizational goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Schedule and supervise interns (as directed by the Senior Director) and provide counseling and mental health services to clients. Provide oversight to ensure a high‑quality internship experience, including weekly supervision, quarterly evaluations, interim support for intern clients, and coordination with university staff.
