The Machine Learning Engineer provides an array of services to support the Department of Machine Learning and its Principal Investigators’ research portfolio.

High level responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Administering computing infrastructure and managing databases
• Developing professional level software tools for machine/deep learning applications for cancer research
• Participating in the planning, implementation and conduct of software tools in collaboration with team members
• Interacting closely with Investigators and collaborators in consortium settings
• Training new staff and serving as a resource to other projects involving software development within the department
• Maintaining computer skills and acquiring new ones as necessary
• Maintaining independence: limited supervision required for analysis of data and documentation of results
• Maintaining QA program of software tools, which includes staying familiar with cutting edge machine learning software and informatics tools

• Contribute to software that will be used at Moffitt and across the world to help advance biomedical research

• Work in a dynamic environment and collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, cancer biology researchers, and physicians

• Expertise in software development, analysis pipeline development, and machine learning analyses. Preference for scientific discipline experience.
• Experience using open-source machine learning and deep learning libraries. Commercial libraries, experiment tracking, visualization, reporting, and scaling libraries experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Python and other languages such as R, Perl, C#, and Java. Knowledge of data structures, runtime analyses, and continuous integration preferred.
• Experience developing web-based or scientific software that includes several components and/or libraries, including a database.
• Enjoys working in multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.

• Develop informatics software and analysis tools for machine learning analyses of genomic, clinical, and imaging datasets (30%)
• Provide documentation and user support enabling computational researchers to access and use informatics software (25%)
• Maintain curated, transparent omics, imaging, or clinical data resources and databases suitable for machine learning (20%)
• Develop software tools to integrate bioinformatics and machine learning applications with data resources (20%)
• Establish and maintain standards for structured software engineering, including requirements, design, code, test, quality, configuration & release management, and project management (5%)

• Minimum of bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of software development experience
• Preference for software development experience in biomedical data analyses and machine learning applications

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job‑related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among team members in similar positions.
