HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE TECH COORDINATOR

- Coordinate, participate in, and direct maintenance activities for the chemical herbicide program and assembly and erection of highway signs.
- Select materials, supplies, and equipment; inspect, plan workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees.
- Maintain records of operation and prepare daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and vehicle checklists.
- Operate vehicles and medium/heavy equipment upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional Permit or license; perform preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment.
- Perform light maintenance and servicing work on equipment, including checking and adding fluids, adjusting brakes, and maintaining tire pressure.
- Perform manual labor in maintenance of highways, bridges, and highway facilities using hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.
- Motivate crew members, evaluate performance, and train crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
- Execute Temporary Traffic Control operations.
Knowledge: Mathematical calculations;
Standard safety rules and procedures; procedures, techniques, and use of medium/heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges, and other highway structures; crew leading principles and practices.
Skills: Operating hand and power tools; operating and performing minor maintenance on medium/heavy equipment and vehicles; filling out reports and forms and maintaining accurate records; communicating verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
Abilities: Train others; read and understand job-related materials; develop and maintain effective working relationships; lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds; stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis; work outdoors in various weather conditions, terrains, and heights; stand for extended periods; work independently and make job-related decisions.
Licensure/CertificationNone required, but a CDL Class B license is required within 10 months of appointment. A Class E driver’s license is required at time of hire. A CDL Class B license instructional permit must be obtained within 60 days of appointment.
Other Job-Related Requirements- Respond to emergencies and be on-call (24‑hour duty) as required.
- Maintain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Intermediate Level.
- Work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- Obtain and maintain a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) safety‑sensitive function certification.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, or one year of infrastructure construction or maintenance experience in lieu of a diploma.
- Class E driver’s license and CDL Class B license (instructional permit and air‑brake license) as specified above.
A valid Class E driver license with a driving record that meets the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. Employers will review the driving record and confirm license status during hiring.
Compensation and Benefits- Annual salary: $40,860.63 – $52,878.46 (biweekly range $1,571.56 – $2,033.79).
