Job Summary
The Traffic Control Apprentice at Southeast Traffic Supply, a Helix Family company, plays a critical role in maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow around construction zones, road work, and other temporary disruptions. This position protects workers, motorists, and pedestrians by following established traffic control procedures and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using signs, paddles, and flags
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control zones (cones, barricades, signage)
- Communicate clearly with drivers to ensure safe and orderly traffic flow
- Monitor work zones and traffic patterns to identify and respond to potential hazards
- Coordinate with team members and supervisors using radios and hand signals
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Alert crew members of unsafe conditions or non-compliant drivers
- Assist with loading and unloading traffic control equipment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Certifications:
- Traffic Control/Flagger certification (provided by company)
- Valid driver’s license required
Experience:
- No experience required – training provided
- Prior traffic control experience is a plus
- Strong communication skills (clear, firm, and professional)
- Ability to stay alert and focused in high-traffic environments
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
- Dependable with a professional attitude
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Exposure to traffic, loud noise, and heavy equipment
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and overtime
- Travel to various job sites required
- Reliable transportation is required
