What You Will Do

  • As a Geologist, you will collect, analyze, document, and communicate geological information that helps the operation understand the orebody and make better mining decisions.
  • Your responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct geological mapping, face inspections, sampling, core logging, and field observations in surface and underground mining areas.
  • Identify and document rock types, minerals, alteration, mineralization, geological structures, and features that may influence mining.
  • Collect accurate, high-quality geological data in accordance with approved procedures and QA/QC requirements.
  • Maintain reliable geological records and databases and prepare clear routine and ad hoc technical reports.
  • Translate field observations into practical geological information that supports interpretation and operational decisions.
  • Support geological modelling, resource and reserve evaluation, mine planning, and production activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve geological and operational challenges.
  • Participate in petrographic, PIMA, XRD, and other mineralogical or analytical programs.
  • Apply safe work practices, speak up when conditions are unsafe, and contribute to a respectful workplace.

What You Bring to Freeport

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Geology, Geoscience, or a related discipline
    .
  • Minimum of
    two years of experience
    in mineral exploration, mining geology, or related geological work.
  • Practical experience in geological mapping, sampling, core logging, and geological data recording.
  • Ability to identify rock types, minerals, alteration, mineralization, and geological structures.
  • Familiarity with geological database management and technical reporting.
  • Willingness and ability to work in active mining environments (underground and/or surface).

  • Resource and reserve evaluation support and integration of geology with mine planning and production.

  • Successfully complete the required safety, technical, and operational training.
  • Be available for roster, shift, or non-standard schedules in a 24/7 mining operation.
  • Comply with all applicable company Safety, Health, Environmental, and operational standards.
  • Be prepared to work in high altitude surface elevation, underground mining field, core facility, laboratory, and office environments, depending on the assignment.
