Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid TB test and health examination issued by the local county board of health or recognized medical authority.
Responsibilities
  • Perform regular teacher’s class plan while the teacher is absent, including but not limited to the following:
  • Report to the principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Maintain, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
  • Assume other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
  • Oversee student behavior in class and during lunch and other activities.
  • Consult with the principal or department or grade level head before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in lesson plans.
  • Maintain appropriate records including checking test papers, recording grades, student assignments for homework, projects and the necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
  • Provide individualized and small group assistance for students as indicated by lesson plans.
  • Follow all district and individual school policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching dictates.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Prepare, read, and comprehend a variety of job‑related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job.
  • Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
  • Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints.
  • Write using standard conventions in all languages required by the job.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently in all languages required by the job using whatever communication device or system is required (telephone, Braille).
  • Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations.
  • Be sensitive to cultural differences among individuals and groups of persons.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, consistent with light work.
  • Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to communicate, receive instructions, assignments and directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc., and prepare simple reports and instructional materials using prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Numerical aptitude: use mathematical formulas, add and subtract, multiply and divide, utilize decimals and percentages, apply basic statistics.
  • Form/spatial aptitude: inspect items for proper dimensions.
  • Motor coordination: coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Manual dexterity: handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.
  • Color discrimination: differentiate between colors and shades of color.
  • Interpersonal temperament: adapt to performing under stress and emergency situations.
