As a Traffic Engineer II, you will work on a variety of public and private projects, locally and in other states, gaining broad exposure and meaningful experience in roadway and highway design.

Purpose Execute complex technical transportation engineering techniques, procedures and criteria for transportation and infrastructure projects. Assist in developing sustainable transportation solutions to reduce traffic congestion, promote multiple modes of transportation, support land development, and improve safety for all users.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Receive general instruction on key objectives and direction for complex assignments. Work with advanced engineering techniques and design principles; reviews by senior staff ensure sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
    • May serve as a lead in technical direction over other engineers, providing direction, guidance, mentorship, and delegation of assignments.
  • Operational and Company Level
    • Collaborate with senior members to learn transportation engineering and planning work.
    • Assist with marketing the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and strengthen relationships.
    • Coordinate with other disciplines and internal services/groups/offices as necessary.
  • Do the Work
    • Collaborate with project teams on transportation projects; prepare maps and graphics for meetings, data analysis, field reviews, data collection, research on trends and best practices, stakeholder and public engagement, and developing solutions with recommendations.
    • Prepare engineering plans and reports; assist in grant applications and related services.
    • Participate in construction-related assignments; draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, letters, proposals, and other communications.
    • Prepare reports, plans, specifications, construction schedules, cost estimates, permits, and designs; coordinate field visits and ensure data collection and observations.
    • Direct tasks on projects, monitor progress for technical accuracy, and ensure schedule and budget adherence.
    • Provide internal and external technical presentations and quality control for multiple projects.
    • Assist with client and outside agency communication and attend project/public meetings.
    • Develop and maintain accurate and organized project files; adhere to firm goals, SOPs and QA/QC procedures; assist in QA/QC reviews of others’ work.
    • Mentor junior staff; lead analyses and concept design aspects of engineering projects (e.g., traffic studies, corridor/regional studies, safety studies).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field (required).
  • Completed coursework in transportation engineering and/or highway design (preferred).
  • Three or more years of professional engineering experience with emphasis on transportation engineering (required).
  • Familiarity with Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) preferred;
    Professional Engineer (PE) registration or ability to obtain within six months preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle check or reliable transportation to/from office and project sites (preferred).
