Bowman is seeking an Assistant Project Manager, Traffic Engineering to join our team across the New England region, with locations in Boston, MA, Taunton, MA, Westfield, MA, and Lincoln, RI. The role offers broad exposure to public and private sector transportation projects, providing meaningful experience and opportunities for professional growth.
PurposeApply administrative, technical, and management techniques to successfully complete transportation and infrastructure projects on time and within budget. Develop sustainable transportation solutions that improve community livability by reducing congestion, promoting multimodal travel, supporting land development, and enhancing user safety.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Direction
- Receive broad guidance from senior management on key objectives and policies, and apply that guidance to project execution.
- Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution, reviewing staff work for quality assurance.
- Supervise project personnel, providing mentorship and professional development guidance.
Operational & Company Level
- Collaborate with senior members on transportation engineering and planning work.
- Lead regular project staff meetings and assist in marketing the firm’s capabilities to new and existing clients.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and internal services as needed.
Technical Project Work
- Complete independent technical project tasks for various project elements.
- Assist in project management, monitoring progress for technical accuracy, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
- Support budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and client management tasks.
- Draft transmittals, memos, minutes, letters, proposals, and other documentation.
- Prepare reports, plans, specifications, construction schedules, cost estimates, permits, and designs.
- Develop scope of work and project plans.
- Monitor deliverable schedules and compile status reports.
- Provide technical assistance in resolving project challenges and perform quality control.
- Prepare client presentations and attend public meetings.
- Review project changes and additional work requests.
- Support monthly billing and invoicing.
- Serve as liaison between clients, agencies, subcontractors, and project teams.
- Lead proposal preparation and technical product submission.
- Supervise work of project staff, ensuring high professional standards.
- Assist with QA/QC review of technical work.
- Mentor junior staff.
- Lead analyses and concept design of engineering projects such as traffic studies, corridor/regional studies, safety studies, and related services.

- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Eight or more years of professional engineering experience with an emphasis on transportation engineering.
- Demonstrated leadership in engineering projects, especially transportation.
- EIT registration required; alternatively, nine or more years of successful transportation engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer registration preferred or within six months.
- Experience preparing construction plans or studies for roadway/traffic projects.
- Experience directing tasks and performing QA/QC.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid state driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check.
- Proficient knowledge of Synchro, HCS, AutoCAD, Micro Station, VISSIM, SIDRA, and/or Blue Beam.
- Knowledge of DOT permitting agencies and industry design, permitting, and construction standards.
- Knowledge of Federal and State ADA Standards and Guidelines.
