Position Summary
The Plant Operator I reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for sewage, FOG, sludge waste processing, and disposal equipment in the septic and wastewater processing plant to produce quality effluent water in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. This position also reports and performs clerical duties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Act as plant operator, responsible for total plant operations.
- Responsible for monthly reporting and ordering of chemicals.
- Work independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.
- Monitor control panels and adjust plant operations as needed.
- Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret instruments, meter and gauge readings, and test results to determine process control needs.
- Operate equipment associated with receiving, headworks, chemical addition, filtering, setting, and sludge processing.
- Maintain plant log of all operations, events, and important parameters.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests: TSS, COD, pH, etc.
- Ensure pumps, valves, boiler instruments, and other wastewater treatment equipment are functioning properly.
- Monitor equipment for potential failures and make minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Write and interpret documents such as safety rules, SOPs, and maintenance instructions.
- Write and interpret routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively to customers, vendors, regulatory agents, and employees.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as volumes, dosage ratios, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, unit conversion, etc.
- Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
- Complete standard wet lab tests like TSS, COD, pH, conductivity.
- Must be or become certified in confined space entry and forklift operation, if not already certified.
- Valid and current Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification recognized by the state DEP.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass drug screen and physical examination.
- Strong mechanical and process background with knowledge of pumps, valves, blowers, and hydraulics.
- Basic math and computer skills (Word, Excel).

The base pay range for this role is $22.00–$25.00 hourly at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
