Seasonal Registered Nurse II - Night Shift (32 hours per week) - Taunton State Hospital (2600038L)
This is a seasonal position for an anticipated duration of 90 days. The role is part‑time, 32 hours per week, on the overnight shift on unit Cain 4 West from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Days off are Week 1 – Monday/Wednesday/Friday; and Week 2 – Monday/Tuesday/Thursday. Seasonal positions do not offer employee benefits except for sick time accruals. Employees will be required to perform mandatory overtime.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Provides direct professional nursing care to assigned patients on the locked units of TSH using a patient‑centered approach to assist patients in meeting their goals and needs.
- Establishes a therapeutic rapport with assigned patients to facilitate open communication to assist staff in providing care effective in meeting patients’ established goals.
- Oversees the maintenance of a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment utilizing acuity and appropriate staff assignments.
- Assures that all patients are assessed daily for quality care related to physical, medical, psychiatric, spiritual, and cultural needs.
- Gains knowledge needed to provide patient‑centered care within the Recovery Model by attending all assigned educational trainings offered by DMH.
- One year of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility.
- Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
- Bilingual or multilingual fluency given the population served.
Taunton State Hospital (TSH) is a 62‑bed inpatient facility operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) that provides continuing care services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital integrates principles of recovery and rehabilitation into its treatment model and works closely with the Southeast Area to facilitate discharge back to the community.
Qualifications – Minimum Entrance RequirementsApplicants must have at least one year of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility, or an equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
- A graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience. Education toward such a degree will be prorated based on the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
- Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
- Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
- Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s license may be required.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with the internal compensation structure. For all bargaining unit positions (non‑management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Compensation range: $69,108.62 – $ per year. This position does not offer most benefits, but sick time accruals are available.
Title 101 CMR 23.00 (“Regulation”) requires staff to have received COVID‑19 and Influenza vaccinations, or to have taken required mitigation measures. Successful candidates must confirm their vaccination status for both.
