Summary

Under the general direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Secures, unlocks, and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of the hospital personnel, patients, and visitors. Participates in performance improvement activities. Responsibilities
  • Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises.
  • Deescalates all potentially tense situations and immediately contacts local police prior to any physical altercation.
  • Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism.
  • Diligently reports any suspicious activity and investigates accidents, incidents, and criminal acts.
  • Secures, locks, and protects hospital buildings and grounds.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non‑emergency situations.
  • Assists hospital staff in de‑escalation of tense situations and responds immediately to support staff safety.
  • Ensures only authorized persons are admitted onto hospital property and assists with inquiries by patients, visitors, or other employees.
  • Maintains current information in daily activity reports, logs, incident reports, and lost‑and‑found logs.
  • Serves as a member of the emergency response team and responds to codes appropriately.
  • Reports all safety and fire hazards, investigates incidents of unusual circumstances, and reports all incidents to a supervisor.
  • Supports all fire, life safety, and emergency management drills and education initiatives.
  • Documents incident reports accurately and in a timely manner, following appropriate investigative procedures.
  • Responds promptly to all areas of the hospital.
  • Completes hospital and department‑specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements in a timely manner.
  • Manages access control at various entrances, ensuring all staff, patients, visitors, and vendors are authorized for entry.
  • Assists with the operation of security systems including CCTV, access control, and incident reporting.
  • Assists in maintaining regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with physicians, staff, and vendors.
  • Remains prepared to stay on site during weather‑related or other emergencies, ensuring patient well‑being and uninterrupted hospital operations.
  • Remains keenly alert at all times, alerting all employees, patients, and others to possible threats or situations requiring immediate attention.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two to five (2‑5) years of experience in law enforcement, security operations, or a related field; experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Must successfully clear a background check, including a criminal search. Use or possession of a firearm or other weapons is prohibited.
  • Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols preferred.
  • Ability to obtain state‑required security officer credentials as needed.
  • Ability to perform duties independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills required; experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high‑stress situations.
  • Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations involving death, multiple patients, family members, etc.
  • Ability to be honest, alert, and well‑disciplined.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
