SUMMARY

Performs a variety of duties in and around the buildings of the hospital complex to assist the tradesmen and other workmen in completing their tasks; repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists the electrician with trouble‑shooting and necessary repairs as well as installation of new service or projects as needed.
  • Assists plumber with drains, fixtures, rodding, cleaning, etc. as assigned.
  • Assists the carpenter with the installation and repair of such items as doors, windows, screens, locks, etc. as needed.
  • May assist with any plastering, bricklaying or concrete work as needed.
  • Assists in other areas of the department such as boiler room.
  • Picks up various supplies, parts, and building materials and delivers to appropriate location as required.
  • Checks all lighting in and around the hospital buildings on a regular basis.
  • Replaces bulbs as needed and/or makes necessary repairs to fixtures; repairs various types of electrical cords as needed; cleans fixtures on a regular basis.
  • Maintains snow plow and blower.
  • Plasters walls and ceilings.
  • Plunges toilets and drains when necessary.
  • Repairs patient electrical and mechanical beds.
  • Inspects and maintains preheat traps.
  • Cleans and rebuilds traps and strainers.
  • Services and repairs exhaust fans.
  • Repairs steam leaks.
  • Maintains floor machines.
  • Greases fan motors.
  • Replaces fan belts or adjusts as necessary.
  • Solders, brazes and welds material.
  • Repairs flushometers.
  • Repairs gas and oxygen leaks.
  • Cleans electronic filters.
  • Inspects and safety checks dietary equipment.
  • Checks pump and motor operation in various areas of hospital complex.
  • Checks humidity on air handling systems.
  • Turns off systems for energy conservation.
  • Checks draft gauges on air handling systems.
  • Performs maintenance on sterilizers.
  • Repairs fire doors.
  • Installs locks in doors. Re‑keys doors.
  • Replaces fuses.
  • Resets circuit breakers.
  • Performs filter changes in air handling equipment.
  • Installs sinks, toilets, etc.
  • Measures and replaces broken window glass.
  • Replaces floor tiles.
  • Orders needed materials.
  • Picks up parts and supplies in emergencies.
  • Inspects and repairs handrails. Replaces toilet seats.
  • Cleans work area and shop area.
  • Repairs patient call lights.
  • Repairs intercom systems.
  • Repairs parking lot gates and spitters.
  • Assists in roof repairs.
  • Completes work assignments within an acceptable time frame.
  • Uses time and resources to the best possible advantage for successful completion of job responsibilities.
