Heavy Equipment Operator - CDL

Mass Coastal Railroad is looking for a Heavy Equipment Machine Operator. Experience required; experience with railroad equipment preferred; CDL
- Class A license preferred, and ability to drive manual. Our Operators carefully and safely operate trucks and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, Boom Truck, back hoes, skid steers, front-end loaders with forks, and excavators. Additional operation of railroad equipment (tie inserter, regulator, etc.) will be required; on-the-job training for railroad equipment will be provided. When not operating; this person may be expected to assist as a Railroad Track Laborer;
which is a physically demanding job.
Pay Range: $28-35/hour; commensurate with experience and licensure; competitive pay and benefits

Hours:
Full-time, mainly Monday thru Friday, but some weekends; eligible for overtime
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
- Operate trucks and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, back hoes, skid steers, front-end loaders with forks, and excavators, and railroad equipment (tie inserter, regulator, etc.); on-the-job training will be provided.
- Work around all types of moving equipment.
- Perform manual labor as required.
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, NORAC, Employee Handbook, procedures, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Perform routine preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Assist with the troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions.
- Assist with the development of improved and new field methods and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- CDL (Class
A) required. Must be able to drive manual. - Hoisting and/or Excavating license required (or ability to obtain)
- 2 years' experience safely operating heavy equipment such as, skid steers, front-end loaders, excavators, etc.
- High School diploma/GED
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License
- Basic
Competencies: - Strong comprehension of communication
- Reasoning skills
- Ability to follow the rules of the Railroad - NORAC
- Basic math
- Mechanical aptitude
- Physical Requirements:
- Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
- Perform work activities that require the ability to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, balance, climb, stretch, lift, carry, push, pull, and crawl.
- Perform work activities that require the use of hands simultaneously while using fine eye-hand coordination to make fine adjustments to parts, instrument settings, controls, etc.
- Exposure to equipment that may intensify the heat factor on an occasional basis.
- Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection.
- Employment Conditions:
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.
- Must be available on an on-call basis for emergency trouble call response.
- Must be able to work a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work.
- Must wear protective equipment including, but not limited to, high-visibility apparel, hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, safety glasses, etc.
- Must complete trainings and pass examinations.
- Must pass all required assessments.
- Must pass a pre-employment medical examination, including a drug screen, as well as random and for-cause testing for drugs and/or alcohol during employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment background screening.

- Work outside in all weather conditions in confined spaces and/or elevated heights and on level or uneven surfaces.
