Position Overview

AJM Packaging Corporation, one of America’s leading manufacturers of sustainably sourced and produced paper products, including a broad range of paper plates, cups, bowls and bags, is seeking a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer to join our team. The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer will drive equipment reliability and uptime by leading preventative and predictive maintenance programs, analyzing failure and performance data, coordinating cross‑functional teams and vendors, and continuously improving maintenance effectiveness, safety, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

& Duties
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and engineering teams to integrate Reliability & Maintainability principles during planning, commissioning, and scheduling of proactive maintenance activities.
  • Lead in the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Program typically using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance.
  • Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on equipment failures to recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Implement and apply condition‑based monitoring techniques—including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic testing—to critical production assets for predictive maintenance (PdM).
  • Devises plans and programs for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a production facility. Accurately defines and estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders.
  • Develops inspection and survey procedures to ensure an effective preventative maintenance system is followed.
  • Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime. Utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible.
  • Analyze equipment performance, PM data, and reliability metrics including Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time to Repair (MTR), and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Train and hold plant maintenance technicians accountable to PM protocols in compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and organizational safety standards.
  • Mentor and train maintenance personnel on updated procedures and protocols where appropriate.
  • Own, optimize and manage spare parts inventory, ensuring critical components are available to meet reliability goals and following a robust documentation, storage, retrieval and replenishment system.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for equipment, procurement and maintenance support.
  • Support capital projects by providing reliability input during design and commissioning phases.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance procedures, reliability reports & equipment history.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance asset reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Lead/supervise maintenance staff as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 3-7 years in maintenance, reliability, or asset management within manufacturing, industrial, or process environments.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of reliability principles, predictive maintenance technologies, and CMMS systems.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and failure investigation techniques.
  • Experience with programmable logic controller (PLC), sensors, motors, gear boxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, adaptability, and time management—with the ability to apply these effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
