Job Summary

The Strategic Planner role leads the development and execution of complex strategic initiatives that advance ERCOT’s market evolution, grid operations, and overall business objectives. The incumbent designs and maintains multi‑year strategic roadmaps, evaluates the feasibility of proposed improvements, and translates emerging business concepts into structured proof‑of‑concept or project processes. The Strategic Planner applies deep knowledge of ERCOT’s regulatory environment, business strategy, and operational landscape to anticipate challenges, formulate contingency plans, and recommend actionable solutions.

The position coordinates cross‑departmental efforts, defines scope and deliverables, and plans and executes market initiatives in response to PUCT directives and ISO business development strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives that support ERCOT’s market evolution, grid operations, and business objectives.
  • Design and maintain multi‑year strategic roadmaps, prioritize changes, and document initiatives.
  • Evaluate the organizational and financial feasibility of proposed improvements.
  • Translate emerging business concepts into proof‑of‑concept or project processes.
  • Anticipate internal and external challenges, formulate contingency plans, and recommend solutions.
  • Coordinate cross‑departmental efforts, define scope, objectives, schedule, and deliverables for strategic programs.
  • Plan and execute market initiatives in response to PUCT directives, ISO business or market development strategies, or market participant requests.
  • Support preparation of Board‑level strategy materials and coordinate cross‑functional input for executive and Board meetings.
  • Develop complex strategic roadmaps and project plans specifying goals, strategy, cross‑departmental coordination, schedules, risks, and contingency plans.
  • Recommend process, product, or service improvements and evaluate their feasibility.
Additional Duties by Level
  • Level1: Supports strategic planning and consulting services under guidance; researches solutions; analyzes plans; documents contingency plans; applies basic analytical and project management skills.
  • Level2: Independently plans, directs, and coordinates strategic efforts; develops and maintains 2–3 year strategic product roadmaps; identifies and analyzes options; defines scope, objectives, schedule, and deliverables; manages multiple strategic efforts simultaneously.
  • Level Sr: Works with executive and management leaders to develop ERCOT’s strategic plan; traces status of strategic initiatives; leads working sessions with executives to develop draft annual company goals; tracks status of goals; maintains, supports, and trains on the Strategy and Work Management tool; develops and delivers reports and dashboards; supports Board‑level strategy materials; leads market initiatives; anticipates regulatory issues; recommends contingencies;

    manages emerging concepts.
Experience

Minimum 5 years of job‑related experience beyond the degree requirement; progressively responsible experience as a manager or project manager preferred. Experience in the power industry, corporate strategy, strategic planning, performance management, or enterprise goal‑setting is highly desirable.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Finance, Computer Science, MIS, Business, Public Policy, or a related field is required.

Certification

Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.

Salary Range

$102,000 – $140,000
